Introducing “Sarah” – A New Mixed-Media Artwork by Steve

I am thrilled to share my latest creation, “Sarah,” a 40 cm x 40 cm mixed-media artwork using watercolour and ink pens on 300 gsm paper. This piece, vibrant and dynamic, features a stylized portrait of a woman that explores the interplay of detailed depiction and whimsical, nature-inspired elements.

In creating this piece, I combined watercolour and ink elements to achieve a striking balance. The central figure, depicted from the shoulders up, has a pallid complexion and large, expressive eyes. Her flowing hair is adorned with illustrations of butterflies and bright red flowers, creating a sense of movement and life. The background complements these features with its blend of abstract elements and vibrant patterns in shades of red, orange, yellow, and green.

One of the unique aspects of “Sarah” is the incorporation of art nouveau elements within a contemporary style. This approach allowed me to merge classic elegance with modern vibrancy, resulting in a composition that is both captivating and harmonious. The detailed depiction of the woman contrasts beautifully with the whimsical nature-inspired elements, bringing a dynamic quality to the piece.

Sarah Background

“Sarah” is not merely a portrait; it is a celebration of strength and beauty inspired by one of my favorite strong female protagonists, Sarah Manning from the TV series Orphan Black. Although my paintings are not realistic representations of their namesakes, I aim to capture the essence of their strength and the complexity of their characters.

Creating “Sarah” was a journey of exploration and expression. It’s a testament to the resilience and beauty of strong women, and I hope it resonates with viewers as much as it does with me. Thank you for joining me in this artistic adventure. Stay tuned for more works inspired by the incredible women who populate our favorite stories.
