Steve Mason

I’m Steve Mason — a visual artist who’s been wrestling with paint since the 1950s (and occasionally winning). Over the years I’ve shown my work in galleries, art trails, and community spaces — basically anywhere that would let me hang something on the wall without calling security.

Like many artists, my journey hasn’t just been about creating, but also about figuring out how to get people to actually look at what I’ve created. I’ve sold a few pieces, given away far more than I probably should, and learned that sharing art is less about perfection and more about connection (with a bit of luck and a lot of persistence).

So if you’re here to peek at my paintings, welcome — you’ve stumbled into the right place, even if by accident.

About My Work

I work in watercolour, acrylics, charcoal, and mixed media — mostly because I’ve never been able to commit to just one. My paintings range from quiet little studies of interiors (translation: my living room) to more experimental pieces where form, texture, and abstraction do whatever they like while I pretend I’m in control.

Each medium comes with its own personality: watercolour runs everywhere if you so much as breathe near it, acrylics demand you work faster than humanly possible, charcoal covers you head-to-toe like you’ve been down a coal mine, and mixed media… well, that’s just what I call it when I’ve run out of ideas and glue something on.

I don’t stick to one subject or style because, frankly, I get distracted easily. Sometimes it’s the stillness of a room, sometimes it’s an interesting object, sometimes it’s just the way the light falls — if it catches my eye, it usually ends up on paper. Whatever the subject, the common thread is curiosity, plus the hope that at least some of it looks intentional.
